If you want to play live you'll want to get a capable laptop, and a good external audio card (most laptops don't have very good soundcards).

You may also want some type of controller for playing live, a MIDI controller keyboard or something like Native Instruments Maschine or Ableton's Launchpad.

Also remember that picking the right software is mostly about the workflow, not about the sounds that come with it. You can get more (free) samples and VST instruments for them to expand the range of sounds for doing dubstep or any other kind of music really.

Dude, all you need is a computer program if you just want to produce Dubstep.

Fruityloops is one of the easiest music production programs and people like Rusko use it to make Dubstep, start with that. Download it for free through a torrent, dont bother paying. I recommend you watch my brothers tutorials on Youtube, they are very good.

If you want to get more technical, download a program called Reason, its like the industry standard for music production but is quite complicated to use. You'll need to follow a tutorial or guide.

If you just want to MIX dubstep music (that other people have made) get a program called Virtual DJ, i got it free on a torrent. Also, go to pirate bay and type DUBSTEP and arrange by most seeders, there are a few good torrents that are like 2gb each with LOADS od dubstep tunes that are really good.

You only need record decks if you want to mix vinyl records....
