Your Questions About Equipment Tops

James asks…
Can "cultured marble" vanity tops be refurbished? How, and with what equipment?
I purchased a 15 year old home. The cultured marble vanity in the master bath is dull, superficially discolored, and slightly scratched. Possibly stained from traces of iron in the water.
Can the surface be renewed?
What type of kits or tools, abrasives, polishing materials, etc. are available to restore it surface to "like new" condition?
Please note: I said "Cultured Marble" which is a type of plastic material.

Before you toss it, I used to treat scuffs in cultured marble sill w/ white car compound. A buffer comes in handy Cheaper to try that 1st . You may have to polish it after w/ a fiber glass wax, the kind you use for boats. I don t know if it ll get back to "like new" but this is the process I used and was told to me by my suppler of threshold. Who also pored sinks and jacuzzis. For others that don t know these sinks are made up from marble dust and epoxy . GL

What is necessary equipment for top climbing?
I have recently began rock climbing with some friends on some local granite faces. I always use my friends equipment because i have none of my own. I prefer to do top climbing and i want to buy some equipment for myself and one other person. (Equipment for a climber and for a belayer) What is the necessary starting equipment? And how many of each should i get? (Such as: how many caribeaners would i need)
landscapeliving answers:
This depends on the specifics of the location, but the bare minimum list would be:
dynamic climbing rope, two harnesses, two locking carabiners, 1 belay device, two helmets, anchor for the top point
This last requirement (anchors for the top point) is what makes the list highly dependent on specifics. This top anchor is the most important component (it bears all the load and failure here would mean a ground fall inevitably) and the most complex to properly setup. It could be as simple as throwing two slings around a tree and clipping the rope through two locking carabiners (ALWAYS use at least two anchor pieces...for example dont put a single sling around a tree, use at least two), or it could consist of a complex anchor with several different equalized pieces of rock protection. You will need to purchase a book on rock climbing anchors (I highly suggest "Rock Climbing Anchors: A Comprehensive Guide" by Craig Luebben) and/or take a class from a certified guide/instructor. I have seen some scary anchors setup by novice top ropers. Top roping is the safest way to climb, but ONLY if done properly. So back to the list, this top anchor could consist of several pieces of rock protection (stoppers, cams, tricams, etc.), several carabiners, and several slings or lengths of cordelette...so you will need to see what anchor you will be building at the top of the climb to know what materials to buy. In addition to this, you may need another locking carabiner and a sling/cord and possibly a piece of pro or two for an anchor for the belayer (anchoring the belayer is not always necessary and not always ideal, but you will need to learn when/why to anchor a belayer to make that choice...I believe this is also taught in the book I recommended).

How can I stay fit and healthy if I can't afford a gym membership or my own exercise equipment?
I would like to know how I can stay fit and exercise all of my muscles even though I don't make enough money after my bills to afford a gym membership. I also can't afford to buy exercise equipment for my place, but I wouldn't be able to anyway because my studio apartment is too small to contain any gym equipment. On top of it all I work at a desk job so I don't get any physical exercise during my work hours either. Please help me solve this problem, my mood seems to be souring due to lack of physical exercise. I'm feeling more and more how much I need some kind of exercise because my physical health is suffering and this is affecting my mental and emotional well being. Thank you.

I'm a fitness buff myself who found myself in a similar situation a while back. I came to realize i was sitting on the best piece of equipment available my own body. You will see twice the result lifting your own body wieght from different variations on pushups and other excersise lifting your own body wieght in different more natural positions will double your strenght and boost mind and body awareness this is recommended before hitting the gym any how. But I guarauntee after doing it this way you'll never stop if not just to hit the gym to show off your results to the gym elite

what equipment do i need for a small gig with an electric and acoustic guitar and vocals?
me and my friend want to start a band. she sings and plays Acoustic guitar and i play electric. we are gonna wanna start playing at small shows like 100-150 people tops so what equipment are we gonna use. will i need a 200 watt amp or do most places provide a sound system where my small amp will do the trick. and what about the acoustic? how much will all this cost?
landscapeliving answers:
You are always at an advantage to get a good amp to fill up any place. You need a good PA too. Not every place has a sound sytem. You can get a good acoustic guitar and a pickup at Musician's friend.com. Don't buy the ones with the electric built in. They have lousy little pickups. Buy a seperate pickup for the acoustic. And some good mics. You can get all these stuff at musician's friend or music123 .
