Betty asks…

What recording equipment is necessary for audio dramas/podcasts?

I'm a little confused as to what are the best recording devices for recording an audio drama or podcast
Thanks

landscapeliving answers:

Pretty much any USB mic will work great if you only need one mic. If you have more than one person being recorded, get a mixer or USB interface with enough inputs for each mic needed.

The mixer uses normal mics (non-usb):

I'm recording a podcast in a really small room. What is the best equipment to use?

I'm recording a podcast in a really small room. What is the best equipment to use?

landscapeliving answers:

Small room is good. Even the cheapest equipment will work best without echo if you just put a few carpet swatches or acoustical tiles on the walls. Just put them up randomly and it will help.

There are lots of sources for equipment, use a search engine, plus I'm sure you'll get some response from the tekkie side of this forum. I don't have the room to explain all you'll need in here - there are many multi-chaptered articles on the web that will explain what you need to know.

I am interested in learning how to podcast. What equipment do I need?

What equipment do I need to create a podcast? How do I podcast? I have a training session that I want to record and have my participants use their iPod to view it. How do I accomplish this? Which iPod is best for this kind of project?
In addition to the computer mic and software, can I incorporate a webcam for video?

landscapeliving answers:

All you need to make a podcast is a computer microphone and sofware. I think quicktime pro would work, but I am sure there are a couple of free programs available. Any iPod will work.

I have a gaming website. Can I write off video game purchases?

A few friends and I have been running a gaming website, we3gamers.com, for a few months now. We report news and press releases we get by a paid service via gamespress. We do not have an LLC yetm but are thinking of registering.

Once we register the LLC, can we write off the video games that we review? We want to review as many as possible, but they are so damn expensive.

What about other expenses like business cards, recording equipment for podcast, computer equipment necessary for video capture, software for editing, Games Press fees, etc?

Thanks in advance.

landscapeliving answers:

If your reviews generated income, then, yes, you can write off the expense of the games (in the US, at least).

Everything else you mention would seem to be deductible as legitimate business expenses. You don't have to have an LLC to write off expenses, either.

In general, you'll also have to prove that you can reasonably expect to make a profit from the site. If you're not making any income, you can deduct your expenses, but you have to both show an effort to make income if audited. There's also a rule of thumb that you must make money three out of every five years (though falling below this threshold doesn't automatically disqualify you if you can prove effort or income).

Pod Cast Knowledge needed: I wanted to know how to post a Podcast?

I am a poet trying to branch out and I wanted to start doing weekly pod casts to post on my website. I have a business website supported by Yahoo! so I wanted to know what steps do I need to take to make my website capable of handling pod casts and what equipment/website can I have/visit to help me record a podcast.

landscapeliving answers:

You can open accounts with various podcast hosts like podbean.
Www.podbean.com (free by the way).

Then take their html player code by copying and pasting it into your current blog or website.

Check out how i do mine. Www.conradsconcerns.com

as far as equipment, most people use Audacity for free software along with any mike through their soundcard.

Pretty simple actually.
