Sharon asks…
Best tools for 2 men with a truck to make money in winter?
In the summer we do landscaping.. we have;
'07 Silverado 8 ft longbed
landscaping tools
new pressure washer?
we're not making money, what new tools do you suggest?
we can get insured for anything!
landscapeliving answers:
Winter - hauling fire wood, (if you are near timber you could cut and split for extra profit) short haul deliveries of all types, Christmas tree delivery, snow shoveling, (snow blower) dirt delivery early spring, simple moving, furniture delivery anytime of the year
Pressure washer can be used to clean sidewalks store fronts, decks, boats, etc. But depending upon where you live most work would be done in the summer...
Good luck!

Susan asks…
What commercial grade landscaping tool brand is the best?
I am looking to start up my own landscaping business next year and I am wondering what direction I should go with my purchases. I am currently working for someone else right now and we are using some STIHL products (kombi motor split shaft power broom, trimmer, pruning tool, and edger) and some older SHINDAIWA brand trimmers and backpack blowers. We also have 1 STIHL backpack blower. I have found that the STIHL brand trimmers are much, much more powerful than the SHINDAIWA brand. The SHINDAIWA backpack blowers have a little more power than the STIHL but are almost twice the weight, and make a lot more noise. We just got the STIHL equipment this year so as far as longevity goes I have no idea what to look forward to. Does anyone know if STIHL products will last as long or longer than the SHINDAIWA products?

Anything by Makita is well worth recommending.

David asks…
What's the best way to cut a single landscaping brick?
I put a small flower bed in a corner of my lawn, and put edging bricks around the border. The last brick is a little too long. It's only about 2-1/2" thick and 3" tall where I need to cut it. Is there a way I can cut this brick without buying a power saw? (I do have a Dremel and a power drill, and various other hand tools.)
landscapeliving answers:
Hello......
All you need is a hammer & cold chisel. Draw a pencil line where you want the cut, then gently score the line with the hammer & chisel going all the way around several times. After a few minutes of this you'll see it start to crack along your line.

What's the best tool/s or kits to make colorful, artful and professional handrawn landscape graphics?
what mediums (specific types and brand) are best?
are there any artful templates /stamps (or something else that might be better?)
maybe there's a kit that has all the great stuff in one package?
I prefer to handdraw the landscape plans. Thanks!
obviously paper and pencils....
perhaps an experienced landscape architect or design student has a favorite medium (pencil, marker, etc) and brand. Also artful templates...not just boring shapes!
landscapeliving answers:
Well, obviously you need some graphic paper and coloured pencils..rulers. Etc.
And proper lighting with a open desk.
